Honestly, I'm not happy with any of it. It's not to make life convenient, but to instead control and surveil. The sad part is too many people are all too eager to jump on board. They don't stop to think of the consequences of these so called new "tools" that those in power have unleashed to the public. Slowly put these things out little by little to get people used to their rights and privacy being gone without them realizing until it's too late, if they even realize it at all to be frank. Kind of like the frog...Too many people have a veil over their eyes to see the truth. They grab onto the next new shiny thing these people dangle in front of their face, and they're all too eager to grab it and participate. I will not. I refuse. And when the time comes for the mark, I will not be participating in that either. I refuse. Soon the choice will have to be made. How many will take the narrow way instead of the broad road? I pray God gives me the strength to endure until the end and not cave to the world around me.
This! Thank you, Jess! I use AI daily due to a physical disability that makes it hard for me to type AND think ahead of my typing at the same time. It doesn't write FOR me but it is my ever present copywriter. My thoughts, my words, my hearbeat, aided by a computerized grammar nazi. Last night, I spent hours carefully crafting a post, only to have it dinged for 100 percent AI created. I panicked, then realised it was the graphic I created to go with the article that caught the AI detector's radar. Once it was removed, I passed the AI test with flying colours. But i do carry a bit of residule guilt... is it actually cheating on my end? But then again, are my leg braces cheating? Is my cane cheating? Is my walker cheating? Deep thoughts.
I think not. The Apostle Paul used a copy person, as apparently his eyesight was a struggle for him. For you, I see AI as no different. Your braces, cane and walker are supportive, not cheating. I see AI for you as the same thing. Write on, and enjoy the process, as the woman Jess told us about!

Quixotic -- This was my most recent "surprise word" that jumped off a page and delighted me. Then I realized I couldn't easily define it to my husband or kids, so I had to look it up. The definition "fit" what I had felt it meant, but didn't know how to articulate. You're *so* right Jess, this word-knowing-thing must come from my ravenous book reading as a child, being homeschooled in a world that barely had legalized homeschooling in the state I was born into...

Today for me is a peaceful and waiting day.... I will get very little done today, or tomorrow, or maybe for the next week. Because I am very very close to birthing our very last child and all the signs of imminance are here. Our last baby, our precious seventh, went home to Jesus on her day of birth 19 months ago. This imminant birth is very long awaited greeting, and a bit of a holding-my-breath with hopefulness, and as every mother who has birthed more than once, with a bit of anxious awareness. My home is a chaos of chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, and little ones simply living normal (but a bit extra-free-to-do-as-they-please today) activity...
Your article today was a sweet smelling garden rose to my soul, and the reminder of beautiful blessings that God is tucking into the various lives of His children all over the nation, and world, who are NOT fully occupied by the act of simply waiting for a baby to arrive.
Very good perspective here. Any of these things can be great tools when used appropriately, though the slope is quite slippery as always. It’s hard to not immediately swing to one side or the other in this current age. This reminded me to step back and look at the bigger picture.

I've tried to withold judgment on AI for a good long while. My take at the moment is, it's a tool. It can be used and trained well or badly, depending on who's using it.
I haven't done enough research to tell whether it'll do greater harm to our surrounding environment than humans have already done, though I am unconvinced by the arguments that it won't *actually* use 'more water' than a regular old factory. In my own state, we certainly can't afford to be wrong on that one, especially since more people are moving West than our aquifers can support. And I hate how they're taking good farmland for datacenters as well as new subdivisions; I think that's short-sighted and poor planning.
One problem is that many students are using it to replace doing their own thinking, with hilariously bad results. I don't think that young people should be using it, without having enough experience to understand a) how AI works and its limitations, and b) how to do the work themselves. I heard this story about a hallucinating chatbot conflating Abraham (the prophet) with Abraham LIncoln, and concluding that Abraham was a zombie, with the kid who prompted it taking the whole thing in uncritically as truth. If you're going to use it for research, beware! Double-checking your work is doubly important now.
I do think that AI can't replace a well-educated human mind - not in writing or mathematical pursuits or any other use. There is a human ability to make intuitive leaps in logic that a machine can never replicate. It may make some jobs safer and easier, especially ones where automation is possible.
I think that we've only begun to explore its consequences, but I think that without guardrails and some kind of moral code, AI will become a detriment and not an augmentation to human flourishing.
And I'm not giving up my em-dashes and semicolons and sentence fragments just because some machine decided that they were an effective way to write. AI hasn't yet figured out how not to mix metaphors or adhere to a coherent plotline yet, so there!
And no AI can get away with 'Hello darlings' ❣️

AI still scares me on some level. Maybe I've watched too much Sci-fi over the years.
But fact can still be stranger than fiction.
